HSBC Expat, run by HSBC's Jersey branch, explicitly markets its expat account to US citizens moving abroad. To qualify you need £75,000 in savings or investments, or to be an existing HSBC Premier customer with at least £10,000 to save or invest with HSBC Expat, and you must live in an eligible country (we didn't find the full eligible-country list for the bank account). Expect extra FATCA paperwork as a US national. HSBC Expat investments aren't available to US nationals at all (see the separate entry).
"If you’re moving to the States, or you're a US citizen heading abroad, your bank account is one of the first things you’ll need to sort out."
"To qualify for HSBC Expat, you'll need to meet one of our criteria on either investments/savings of £75,000 or already be an HSBC Premier customer and have at least £10,000 to save or invest with HSBC Expat. You'll also need to reside in an eligible country."
"If you are a US national, have US contact details or other US connections, we may require additional FATCA documentation"
HSBC Expat's country eligibility notice says its investments aren't available to US nationals, wherever they live. It also excludes residents of a long list of countries, including Australia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Panama and Singapore. This covers investments only; the HSBC Expat bank account is a separate entry.
